The Struble bike-hike trail starts at the Duck Pond in
Downingtown and goes for about 3 miles. You can get to 282 - you can
take trails that branch off of it and get to many other places to ride.
You used to be able to go to the end, cut through a dirt parking lot and
go up to Marsh creek ( turning left takes you to 282). Someone bought
the old factory and the property - has designated it Private Property -
blocked off part of the trail (50 feet) and access through the parking
lot to the road up to Marsh Creek and 282.
I used to go to the end, make a left and then ride down 282 -
that way I was warmed up before hitting the rolling hills. I will have
to change my course slightly.

Deb,
I'm not sure but I think the Struble is a trail that is
north of Marsh Creek SP and parallels 282. Ray Sachs is a former CHESCO
transportation planner who is still active as a CHESCO cycling advocate.
I posted this message (from the CCCC list) because there has been some
interest in doing some bike/camping trips to French Creek SP and back.
His account includes some good routes to get there. Maybe Dave.Land
knows for sure.

This is probably old news to most of
you, but I rode up the Struble yesterday with the intent of taking 282
the rest of the way up to 82 and beyond. The first mile of 282 after the
end of the Struble was so terrible I was thinking about where to bail
out and do a different ride. But about a mile north of the end of the
trail, the new pavement started. It was PERFECT from there all the way
up to 82. This was the first time I've actually enjoyed riding this road
in years - its a wonderful cycling road when you're not scared out of
your wits the whole time because of the open seams, cracks, and holes in
the road.
It would be nice if they'd finish it all
the way down to Downingtown or at least to the end of the trail, but
this is such a vast improvement that I wanted to make note of it.
-Ray Sachs
