Here's a nice account of a unique event that we witnessed on our ride
Sunday. It was written by Jack(vortex) from BCP.

It was twelve noon. Thirteen riders were cycling north out of Delaware
State, following the Brandywine. This is DuPont country: we never see
people here, and we seldom see cars. But today the road. was lined with
people waiting for a parade. A minute later, the first one filled the
road in front of us. This was the Winterthur Carriage Parade. The
grandest were in the vanguard. This is a narrow, two-lane road with heavy
shade and no shoulder, making the size of a coach and four seem even
greater. It is shocking to meet a large coach filled with passengers
wearing clothing from the Nineteenth Century, being pulled by almost
three tons of horses adorned with silver. The heads of the passengers
were ten feet above the ground. The coaches were rolling swiftly
downstream. The drivers fought to control the horses, distracted by the
cyclists. In some cases, the heads of the horses were pulled at right
angles to their bodies. The men wore top hats and blankets across their
laps; the dashboard is aptly named. Parasols rested like arrows in a
quiver at the side of the coach. I lost count after two dozen Two
wheeled carts pulled by a single horse followed at the tail end. We've
had to wait for a fox hunt to cross the road a few times, but I doubt I
will ever see this spectacle again.
