[DVBC] RE: DVBC Digest, Vol 6, Issue 19

CR,

You still assume if the DVBC offers First Aid Training to its members it
would be required for all ride leaders. Then you assume it will be the
policy of the DVBC to advertise "rides with a first aid trained ride
leader". All I am advocating is the DVBC consider providing First Aid
training to all DVBC members, who feel comfortable receiving the
training, as a proper function of the club. Just as the DVBC promotes
leading rides, and has clinics to clean and maintain bicycles. I don't
think promoting a First Aid Training Course provided by a nationally
recognized organization will "send any signal". It will merely help
people develop skills that may help in an unfortunate event.

Doug

Doug --
The signal that people on these rides are safer than they would
otherwise
be. Someone said that promoting safety is one of the clubs goals. Yes,

promoting safe places to ride and safe riding in general, but not that
you
are safer because the club has provided training for ride leaders.

Doug please note that I said it is awesome if someone is able to provide

help, thus implying that they had training. So, of course, it is better
if
more people have training; however, that is not the issue. The issue is

liability for the club and leaders, presumed or actual.
