Wednesday 9:30 AM 320 Market-. 40 degrees, grey, I'm here. Where's
Charley, or anyone else? I had already decided to do just 30 miles to
avoid the predicted afternoon rain. Off I go solo over the planned loop
to Cheyney. Not getting any warmer Hands are cold. Turn around at
Cheyney. Stop to check incresingly louder whine from my front wheel.
Nice lady in SUV stops to offer help. I ask if she could lube the
bearings in my front hub. She says no. I thank her anyway and continue
toward the Gradyville uphill.
Hands really cold on entering the park. At nature break I warm hands in
private warm place (arm pit). In Media I cannot feel my thumb, index and
middle fingers of either hand. More arm pit placement. It's hailing when
I get to Wallingford Road. Just about able to work the brakes and
shifters on Yale Avenue. Core is warm but full finger gloves have
failed. Next time take the lobsters.
Now it's raining lightly.
Home-30.3 miles. Inside- fingers warming- no frostbite.
Should have understood why Charley was not there at 9:30.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Doc
