>From todays KYW1060 website. What ever happened to common sense?
_______________
As of this Friday, itll be more than just a good idea to move over while driving past an emergency scene or a police stop; itll be the law in Pennsylvania.
Its being dubbed the Steer Clear law. As of Friday, Pennsylvania motorists will be required to move into a non-adjacent lane of traffic when approaching an accident or fire scene, a police stop, or a tow-truck tending to a disabled vehicle.
If you cant move into another lane, youll at least be required to slow down to a careful and prudent reduced speed. PennDOT spokesman Rich Kirkpatrick:
The idea is when youre driving along, and you see something happening in front of you -- either its a police car that has someone pulled over or a tow truck with flashing lights -- this law is dictating what in some respects would be common sense.
And now, failing to react with common sense could result in a $250 fine. If serious injury results from failure to comply, theres also a 90-day license suspension.
