Dave
I always thought this was a race for Euro Amateurs, I'm quite sure it was in the past. Did you win any prizes?
And, to help with your front wheel lifting on a steep climb, borrow this mtn biking technique, lower your chest towards the handlebars to distribute more weight onto the front wheel. Although its a lot easier while sitting, and I imagine you were standing.

I had a lot of fun riding the Univest Cyclosportif today. A real nice scenic route.
Lots of fun being able to stay after the ride and watch the finishing circuits of the pro race, Univest Grand Prix.
I finally found that hill in PA that I need to walk up. About .2 miles of Eichele road points up at 20+%.
I can't vouch for the truth but people were telling me that it is the steepest grade road that PennDot will pave.
  I believe it.
I did make it most of the way up except for about the last 20 yards.
At that point I was in a 30-25 gear and was able to make forward progress. The problem was that with each
pedal stroke my front wheel was pulling an inch or two off the road surface. Due to my level of exhaustion and the
instability of the front wheel coming off the ground I thought it better to walk the last 20 yards to a point where the
grade dropped to a more reasonable level.

I was able to meet up with Doug, Nancy, and Deb after the ride to watch some of the Pro race. It was a fun day.
Would have been nice to see some more DVBC jerseys on the ride.

I think this one may become a regular yearly event for me.
