Re: the ACS ride, I recruited Bob and several other DVBC members to join the team I ride with for that ride every year. It's the Penn Abramson Cancer Center team, and Bob was a patient in the center at least once. It was such a treat for the team and our captain, Pat Remeis (who works at the Center), to have Bob go from patient to survivor/team rider. Rather than dilute the effort, how about bringing more DVBC members to that already well-established team, which has several DVBC members already on it? Pat is a great team captain and she's always up for ways to bring more people to the team. Since Bob was already a team member, how about contacting her and asking her about establishing some kind of fundraising initiative especially in Bob's name?

Here's a neat way to organize a bike's club participation in the ACS ride.
I used to do the ride with the Northeast Roadrunners Chain Gang. The running club chartered a tour bus and left at 5:30 AM from Northeast Philly. When the group reorganized and started the ride at 5:30 from Bucks County, I dropped out because Bucks County was too far away for so early in the morning.
If DVBC plans the event, we could all depart from a common place, such as behind the Staples in Springfield. We'd meet there at 5 AM and load the bikes into a chartered tour bus. We then ride the bus to the Ben Franklin Bridge arriving at 6:30 A.M. The ride starts at 7. The bus goes to Mays Landing, and picks us up at 3:30 PM for the return ride to Springfield, PA. The tour bus could hold 30 participants, and the charter would cost each participant approximately $35, given the inflated price of fuel during the summer months. The club then turns over any cash remaining from the bus charter to the ACS.

That's a great idea, Len. I told Dom last night that I think it would be wonderful if we got a bunch of DVBCers to ride the ACS ride next July in Bob's honor. We could all wear our club jerseys.

Theres not a ride that goes by where he is not in my thoughts. I was so excited riding with him again after his comeback from the first bout with this deadly disease. He gave a lot to DVBC and the charity rides he participated in. I think we should have a yearly memorial ride on the last week of September and collect donations for the American Cancer Society in honor of him. He will truly be missed. Len
