Well I finally taught myself a lesson and have several shoe prints on my backside from kicking myself in the butt afterwards.
I misjudged the drive time to the Salem start. I made it to the intersection of 551 and 49 at about 3 minutes of 9.
Realized then that I would not make it for the start and turned around and when home.
To punish myself I got home and went out on a solo hilly 55 mile ride from home. Had lunch at the Chads Ford WaWa.
Definitely too early in the season for all those hills my legs were fried when I finally made it home.
Had a nice short 25 miles recovery ride today.
Today's ride was really smooth and comfortable, but more on that later.
Hope to see you all soon. Will try to leave earlier next time.

We had 24 riders turn out for the latest edition of the Salem Oak Ride. Bob Martin was there and he seemed pretty fresh considering that he'd been sitting around in the diner for a week.
Debbie unveiled her new bike. There are no words to describe it's beautiful color. Except for the tandem bearing Drew and Nancy (sore toe and all), none of us could catch Deb.
As usual, we split up and came home in several groups. This time we even ate at three different establishments. As you know, if you have either Charlie, Len or the Prince in your group, you are assured of finding your way home. If your group is led by LaDrew you will also make it home after being lost in the process. No disappointments in that regard this time.
The Rear Admiral of the DVBC sang a few new humorous songs mocking vulnerable members of the peloton. Let's hope he wrote them down when he got home.
The one unique feature of this Salem Oak ride was the wind direction. Never before have we enjoyed a tailwind almost all the way back to Salem.
Best ride yet.
