[DVBC] Edward's Still Riding

I spent the day yesterday cleaning and tuning up my Trek rather than shivering with the real men on Bob's ride.
Today, I couldn't stand not riding my ready to roll steed so I headed out in the relatively warm 42 degree afternoon. So guess who I run into on the return from my usual 30 mile Chad's Ford ride... Smiling Edward Sobolewski. He said he was out for a short spin, also 30 miles, having done some riding yesterday. He mentioned being on his commuting bike which he was again riding today and that the hills were a bit more challenging as he spun up the hill in front of me.
As usual he was coaching me to work harder on those hills which I dutifully complied with. As always I was so glad that we ran into each other so I would get a real workout rather than just "La La" along. Gratefully, due to the mismatch of our bikes I was able to climb a few hills with Edward and feel good about getting to the top with him. Thanks Ed!
Hope to make a club ride next weekend.
Woody

Subject: [DVBC] Sat. Ride Report
With the forecast for snow showers, cancellation phone calls were coming in so fast I had to hire a secretary. First it was Dom and Jo Ann, next Doug and Nancy, then Bob Buttram.
D'ster emailed to say he and Gina couldn't make it: "Besides the weather, I have a plumbing leak that I can't find." I would like to know how he knew he had a plumbing leak if he could not find it.
Woody wrote: " Sorry Bob but with 80% probability of snow and high of 39 degrees the ride may be on for some, but not for me." Perhaps the sunburn he picked up recently in Guatemala and Belize was causing the Wooden Man discomfort.
Nevertheless, despite David Cunicelli's no-show status, Drew Knox, Eric Valencia and I headed into an intense northwest wind toward Lancaster County. Oh, yes, and Ed Sobolewski biked 32 miles upwind to come to our ride. While three of us were buying lunch at Kitchen Kettle Village, Ed foraged around outside for some roots and berries, then joined us in the cafeteria.
As we left Intercourse, Edward declined to accompany us over Welsh Mountain, offering the excuse that his touring setup (see photo below) was disadvantageous for the ascent. After the ride he issued his own report:
"The rest of the ride was great with the tail wind all the way home. I finished the ride with 101.5 miles. The only problem was that I had to alter my route because in Coatesville they were resurfacing the road. So instead following the river beds, I ended up going straight to the mountains. With the heavy bike and at that point about 75 miles under my belt, I had to work harder than I wanted, but it was still enjoyable. I will go for a shorter ride later today."
On the trip to Shirk's Bike Shop Drew had been constantly annoyed by the squeaking of my chain and when we got to the shop the proprietors had conveniently placed a bottle of Tri-Flo on a cardboard box outside the shop. While I was inside Drew gave my bike a good lubricating. We sort of figured it was placed there in the same spirit a watering trough and hitching post were put in front of saloons in the old West.
Total miles: 52. After the ride Drew and Eric drove back to Shirk's to cash in on their great deals.
