I have noticed this, too. When I'm riding up a hill (like Sycamore Mills, which I hate if I think about it) talking to someone as I go, I can be in my large ring and not even realize it until I get to the top. Not quite the same as concentrating on the little piece of road in front of me, but certainly a distraction from the usual negative voice

Lots of truth in this article. I know I always perform at a higher level when I'm not concentrating on the task, like climbing a particular hill. If I think about the difficulty or my dislike for a particular hill I always do worse. My mind just gets in the way.
