Hey Dave,
I find that this works. Wash the bottles regularly with dish soap and bleach - allow to soak for a while to kill all bacteria. Rinse with cold water, then swish a tablespoon or 2 of white vinegar around inside the bottle. Traces of vinegar left in the bottle impart a sweet taste, if any.
