Looks like we will go for the 8/17 through 8/20 dates for the Vermont trip.
The other one is locked in to Memorial day weekend.

Two cycling mini trips that Edward and I are planning to repeat next year
are the Chestertown Memorial Day long weekend trip which we plan to ride to
again in Chestertown Maryland. This is a fantastik trip, by Baltimore
Bicycle Club called Spring Fling, with rides of 10 to 100miles bothe cued
and led. Lodging is on the campus of George Washington College with
breakfast and dinner included as well as social get togethers everynight
from a sock hop to square dancing to elegant desert buffets. It is awesome!
I think I paid $325 for the whole thing with a teeshirt! See Woody's article
in summer newsletter.

The other trip is VT Adventure II. The dates I am suggesting for 2007 are
8/10 thru 8/13 or 8/17 thru 8/20. The latter date gives two full weeks
before the Brandywine Tour. Read about this year's trip in Dec newsletter.
This trip is even more economical with costs < $100 (excluding trans).

It would be great to have more riders on both trips

No one else in DVBC that I know of, Dave. In the cc: box are two names of
*other* friends (I know, I know, I better use the term loosely and make sure
everyones' payments are up-to-date) who can tell you about the ride and the
area. 

To paint more of the picture, there are no food stops and you're damn lucky
if you can find SAG support. However, you can ride with a group or be on
your own. I did both. Even though there is a century option every day, I
rode 65-80 miles for 8 days and thought that was plenty for mid-March. There
is a day-trip where most people carpool an hour to the ride start in Bandera
then ride to Leakey. Although most rides go to food stops, you should carry
enough food and water as you won't be seeing any Quickie Marts (yes, there
is Wawa withdrawal). Most days I was back in Fredericksburg in time for a
leisurely late lunch. There is one group dinner but overall this is more of
a do-it-yourself ride compared to waiting in a chow line of, say, 1000
people. 

Temps ranged from the high 50s some morning to the mid-80s by mid-day. Most
of the flowers, including, unfortunately the blue bonnets, were not yet
flowering, so the landscape is more barren than you are used to seeing here
in the three good seasons but much better than snow. Because Federalsburg is
further west in their time zone than we are, the sun rises and sets about 45
minutes later. 

Other logistics: I shipped my bike to a nearby bike store and rented a car
in San Antonio. Door-to-door travel was pretty easy.
