[DVBC] easiest MTB pedals?

Hi, Eric.

I use the pedals Javier mentioned, Shimano PDM 324s, on my touring bike. They have an SPD clip on one side and a standard rat-trap cage on the other. They've worked very well for me for over 6 years and have never needed service.

On my Lemond Zurich I use pedals like Shimano's M520L, a low cost mountain bike pedal with SPD clips on both sides, which is great when starting out because you don't need to look down to find the clip.

Shimano SPDs only have 4 degrees of float, but for my old knees that hasn't been a problem. The cleats come in both single and multi-release versions. I use both Shimano velco-strap and Cannondale lace touring shoes (the latter is more like a sneaker) that have recessed cleat surfaces, so I don't kill myself on those nice clean Wawa floors. I haven't experienced "hot spots" in the soles of my feet because the shoes I use are pretty stiff. And finding one pedal system that fits well is also good for use on all your bikes - you never have to wonder if you've brought the correct shoes.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your search.

Dom
