  Adam,

When I researched trainers two years ago, I went with the Kurt Kinetics Fluid Trainer because the reviews indicated that they were less likely to leak oil.

A coupla words on indoor training:
a.. Consider rollers. I still ride rollers about 75% of the time I'm indoors because they feel more like the road.
b.. Use your old bike and wipe it down carefully after workouts because it will otherwise rust from sweat, even if use a fan (which helps). A trainer will definitely stress your frame.
c.. Recycle old equipment onto the indoor bike. Don the shorts with holes and mount the threadbare tires. No reason to use premium equipment where you won't be seen and can't be stranded.
d.. Find ways to beat tedium. That's the biggest disincentive. Try fast workouts, a rockin' stereo, Arnie Baker training plans, romance videos, or anything else that will keep you going back. Winter is only 12 weeks. You can really diminish the spring agony of riding back into shape by spinning now.
  HTH,

  Drew

    Hi,

Mike Keating gave me an old trainer a while back that sat around unused
through the Chrismas Holidays (when it would have helped me burn off a few
of the excessive holiday cookie-eating calories). But when I finally did
set it up I found out it won't work with my bike (the old Peugot touring
bike) -- the way it supports the bike under the crank, there isn't enough
clearance and the inner chain ring rubs against the support...

So I am in the market again for a new or used model. Any suggestions? I
looked at the Cyclops and Kinetic models and they seemed very good -- but do
I need to spend $300 for this? I know I will get my money's worth out of it,
for many years, so maybe I should just stop whining and buy the thing before
    the weather warms up again.

Any ideas or suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

    ADAM
