Bob,

If they had thrown cold water the effect would have been the same, the
water would have frozen before it hit the ground.  (take a look at snow
making equipment on Spring Mountain) The reason they used boiling water
is, it looks really cool!!! When you release energy in the form of heat
the visual affect are noticeable and the greater the delta temperature
the better the effect.  So the answer to your question, doesn't this
have something to do with my water bottle freezing, but not Bill's? The
answer is No.

Try it next time it is really cold, I will hold your video camera, Doug

    Judy and I have friends who used to live in Minnesota. They say that

when it would get real cold out (something like 30 below) they used to
enjoy 
taking a pot of water, throwing it out the back door, and watching it
freeze 
solid before it hit the ground. But they say that only worked if you got
the 
water to a full rolling boil, then ran to the back door with it while it
was 
still hot.
    Doesn't this have something to do with my water bottle freezing, but
not 
Bill's?
