Subject: [DVBC] july 4 jersey jaunt ride report

Hope everyone had a happy Fourth, and yes, we went riding
yesterday! It was a dubious start, rain in the morning which usually
means I cancel the ride. But a new club member had called to ride and
didn't have a cell phone w/her. When I called her house to hopefully
catch her, she had already left, so off to NJ I went to find the newbie,
and when I arrived at Kingsway there she was along with Bob "McGguyver"
Martin! I've been out on Bob's rides before, but he'd never been on one
of mine, so that was quite an honor. Well, after seeing them, we had no
choice but to wait out the rain for a while at the Harrison House diner,
which it did, though the usual NJ headwinds stayed with us for many
miles as we rode. But Bob ordered a tailwind for the last few miles,
which we got, so we caught a break at the end after pushing through the
winds earlier on.

Once again, the beauty of a C ride. A veteran rider who goes
out for miles and the company and has such a good heart to encourage and
support not only new riders but also other ride leaders. A new club
member who was experiencing her first NJ ride ever, and had great
stories to tell about her recent C ride with Deb Chaga out of Rose Tree.
The patience of the riders to wait while Bob helped someone else out on
a solo ride who had a bike chain issue. And all three us of having no
time constraints because we planned our day around the ride. That made
it possible to wait out the weather and do the miles and have a safe,
fun, and mishap-free experience.

Yesterday's ride made me glad to be a ride leader and glad to be
a member of DVBC!

	Valerie
