[DVBC] Compact Crankset

Debbie:

My girlfriend and I both use the FSA K-Force Compact Crank 50/34 and a DA 27
cassette that we both love. GF use to have a triple and I probably needed
one but, you know the male ego! :) We bike here in Jersey, PA, FL and go to
VA a couple of times a year and it is the most efficient gear set we could
have.
I like you with my DA 53/39 never used the big ring unless descending a big
hill or traveling east on highway 50 in FL, that is if the wind was about
25mph.
I still do the same speed since I never got in the big gear in the front and
the smallest in the back with the DA setup. I still hardly ever need that
with my FSA.
FSA has a full line of compacts but, Shimano has a great looking compact
(Shimano FC-R700) that is on the line with an Ultegra and can be used for
both 9 and 10 speed as the FSA. And might already work with your BB.

I do most of my bike buying on eBay though!

I have three of these:

2

One for my Merlin Magia, one for a Specialized Cyclocross and the GF has one
on her Merlin Extralight. If and when I need a new one or build another bike
I will use the Shimano. Plus, if you go to my shop in Jersey they will work
with you as swapping drive train stuff on new bikes, if you want more
details on that e-mail me and I will give you all the info. That shop is the
best I have dealt with in all my travels, I have lived in all the states
above.

I hope this helps but, I think they are the way to go

Thanks

Subject: Re: [DVBC] Compact Crankset

I'm trying to decide if a compact crank set would be the way to go if I
get a new bike. Is anyone out there using one and how do you like it?
I've got a triple on my current bike and hardly ever use the big or the
little gear, although there was a hill or two last year that I did break
down and use the granny. My inquiring mind would like to know. Thanks.

Debbie
