[DVBC] compact crank questions

hey all,

in light of the recent thread on compact cranks, i would like to ask a 
few questions of anybody in the group who might be able to answer.

i am thinking about changing my current campy 10-speed road double 
(53-39) for a compact crank, for all the reasons noted in the thread.

1) will i have to change my front derailleur?  the whole setup is campy 
chorus and record 10-speed from a few years back.

2) what is the widest-range rear cassette that will work with a 
short-cage chorus or record derailleur?
