Yeah, what she said.

From a personal note; I was once wrecked by a police car in Philly as I rode my mountain bike on the shoulder. His passenger side mirror hit my left handle bar from behind, as he passed somebody on their right. The other car was making a left turn and the cop apparently didn't see me. I can say that confidently, because when I pulled myself out of the bushes, the police car was gone. I'm using my best effort to not think poorly of his character in that I can't imagine that a police officer would do such a thing and drive away knowing they had just possibly seriously injured a person.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to provide input. In general, I would like the federal government to realize that cyclists are out there and the roads should be constructed to allow access. This country is not cyclist friendly at all compared to other countries and our pollution rate shows this. PA is notorious for little or no shoulders and I'd like to see that changed. It would be great if laws would be enacted that would punish drivers more who injury or run cyclists off the road. I understand that in many states this type of offense is merely a misdemeanor. I hope your meeting goes well.

  Debbie

   Dear DVBC.

A delegation of cycling advocates from the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia will be going to Capitol Hill next Thursday in order to advise and consult with all the Congressmen and Senators representing the tri-state area. I expect our group will be 20 or 30 folks. We will be supporting an agenda prepared for us by LAB. (I don't know what that will be yet.) In addition to that we will certainly be bringing up specific local issues such as bike access to the airport and combining ECG/Pa route E with that issue, bikes on Amtrack, the future of public transit in our region (SEPTA), Bridge access on the Ben Franklin, Scudder Falls, Comodore Barry, etc.
I am asking you all for any input, or concerns to add to our message to the Federal Government.

So far, Dom Zuppo, myself, and possibly Steve Trobovic are the only ones I'm aware of who are planning to go from our committee. (Delaware County Cycling Committee) I made a courtesy call to Joe Sestak's office to inform him of our visit and requested that if at all possible, we would like to meet with him personally. I was told he definitely will be in Washington next Thursday. He is definitely involved in the airport issue, and may be able to give us more help with the DRPA. I have a lot of hope about working with our freshman representative who has asked his constituants for their input. Transportation is one of his big interests.
Thank you in advance for your responses.

  David Bennett, Chairman DCCC
