This ride is for experienced tourists only. If you search WCBC rides for Wally Hertler, you can get on his list that will inform you about all the details. There's plenty of time.
I've done plenty of Wally Tours and recommend them for scenery and challenge. His tours are unsupported and utilize motels and restaurants for support. Wally does a whole lot of pre- tour- planning, with the input of his participants. Last year's ride from St. Alban's Vermont to home was the greatest traveling experience in my life. (We took the Amtrak to St. Albans) Just wanted to add to Len's Posting.....

I couldn’t send the cue sheet file. Its too large, but could email it to you. The cue sheet has directions and profiles.

The 2008 Tour to Peaks of Otter (on the Blue Ridge Parkway) is scheduled to start on Saturday, June 21 and finish on Monday, June 30. The cues for the first 6 days are attached.

The starting point is the Royal Farms convenience store in Conowingo, MD at the intersection of US 1 and US 222 North (at the traffic light). If the distance from your home to the first day’s destination, Westminster, MD, is too great a distance to cycle, you might want to consider spending Friday night at the Nottingham Inn (610-932-4050) at US 1 and PA 272, just a few miles from Conowingo.

As in the past few years, participants will make their own reservations at the motels and inns that will have rooms blocked for the White Clay Bicycle Group. But, no arrangements have been made with the lodgings yet, since it is too early for them to accept bookings. Participants must carry their own gear as there will be no sag.

From Peaks of Otter, we will ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway to Rockfish Gap (Waynesboro, VA). The next day we will ride the Skyline Drive to Front Royal. The route from Front Royal is not complete yet.

All of the lodgings will either have a restaurant, or a restaurant will be within easy walking distance.

The climbing elevation shown on the route profiles are always in excess of the actual climbing. For instance, the actual climbing from White Sulfur Springs to Peaks of Otter (using the same route in 2004) is 5540 ft, not the 9320 ft calculated by Topo 6.0. But, the profiles do give an idea of where the major climbs are, and the relative pitch. We should not encounter anything as steep as we experienced on the 2007 tour.
