Maureen and I had a lot of fun participating in the Dragon Boat Festival
today. Each race lasts around 2 minutes 40 seconds which doesn't sound
like much until you're in the middle of a race and paddling your heart
out. What an aerobic workout! My heart beats way faster than it does
climbing Old Gradyville!
When we got to our tent on the river at 7:00 a.m. there was a heavy fog
and we were afraid that it would be foggy for the first race. However,
as soon as the sun came out the fog quickly lifted. As Dave, Frank &
Jake already stated, we won our first race which was quite a pleasant
surprise. It was cool to see the guys after we crossed the finish line
cheering us on. We came in 7th on our second race. The third and final
race was very close. We were in the lead for the majority of the race
until right at the finish the Breast Cancer Team got us by about 5 feet
and another team got second by about 1 foot. We took third. Not a bad
showing considering our team only practiced 3 times and the Breast
Cancer Team trains 3 times per week April though October. Our team, Kay
Krusaders, took 27th place overall in a field of 136 teams. Not too
shabby. Maureen & I had a great time. We saw Eric Zwicky there too.
Thank you all for your generous contributions to fight cancer. DVBCers
are the best.
