Today four of us were treated to spectacular weather with a nice
breeze. John Wilt, Steve Fischer, and Liza Tierney joined me. After
the festivities at the start, (you know the usual--a marching band,
camel rides, food and drinks and today a special guest appearance by
Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand), we took off from Aston. I led
everyone out on a slightly varied backwards Dreamer's Way to Northbrook
ride. Hills at the start but boy was it fun rolling down those hills to
get to Country Club Drive. I did see a house up for sale on on C.C.
Drive that I told everyone the club should buy me and they agreed. We
did ride to Northbrook but since it was Monday it was closed. That
didn't stop us from using their tables for a short break. Then back out
to Chadds Ford for a Wawa stop and then the special way back to Aston
with the easiest way out of the Brandywine Valley that I've been able to
find. Columbus used this route when he was in PA back in 1505. In case
you're wondering why you never heard about that trip, here's the facts.
Columbus was drinking in Lisbon with a map maker in 1505. The two of
them were sick of dealing with Isabella's demands and decided to go out
to sea on their own. They headed out and were caught in a horrific
hurricane which blew them way off course. They landed in the Delaware
Bay and sailed up the Delaware where they met some Lenni Lenape
Indians. The Lenni Lenape took Columbus and the map maker up the
Brandywine in canoes to their homes. Columbus decided to go find W.
Penn and set off on foot. He took the way to Aston that I took today.
However, he was so pissed that after doing all those stinking hills that
there wasn't any Wawas or other stores that he hurried back to his ship
and never talked about the trip nor did he ever officially log it in
with the queen of Spain. And that's the story of how Columbus came to
PA back in 1505.

Getting back to today's ride, it was fun. We did see a lot of roadkill
out there and I saw about 5 deer that were pretty nervous. This made me
wonder if Adam was riding out there yesterday--you know how he hates
animals (they eat his plants!). One dead groundhog was very close to
another on Foulk Rd and then I realized it wasn't dead. He took off in
the direction of the bushes which I'm grateful for. I don't like
tangling with groundhogs teeth!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. See ya on the roads.
