Subject: Unionville Community Bike Drive
Hi Debbie,
... thanks again for returning my call ...
If anyone associated with the Delaware Valley Bicycle Club can spare
some time to share the gift of two-wheel-freedom ... it would be greatly
appreciated ...
Here is a synopsis of the initiative:
This is the 13th year for the Bike Drive. In short, we collect used
bikes, host a 'fix up' day where we fix flats, etc., and then we give
the bikes away just before Christmas in conjunction with a coat, food
and toy drive in Kennett Square. Fix Up Day is this Saturday, October
20th, and we have a record number of bikes to clean up - 150+ bikes! Our
long-time local-bike-shop sponsor is Bike Line of Exton, however, unlike
in recent years, we won't have the Bike Line of Exton Bike Team to
assist us as the team was dissolved ...
So this year, we need folks with a little bike-adjustment-experience
more than ever ... Fix Up Day starts at 9 AM Saturday at the Unionville
Middle School and usually runs till about 1 or 2 ... with plenty of food
and drink ...
Come on out and teach a kid a valuable skill - like how to change a bike
tire ...
This really is a special initiative ... the recipients of the bikes are
truly in-need and grateful ... and those participating in Fix Up Day -
especially the youth - gain an appreciation for those less fortunate
than us. Join us on give-away day, and you too can experience the joy of
a youngster picking out a "new" bike or the relief of an adult knowing
he or she won't have to walk to work ... You can also help us fit the
helmets we give away with every bike.
If anyone has any questions, please have them call me at home: 610 793
6982 ... and feel free to forward this along to anyone that may be able
to pitch-in ...
THANKS AGAIN!
Mike LaChance

DVBCers, Mike LaChance has asked if we could help with the Unionville
Community Bike Drive (see message below). I know it's short notice,
however, if possible it would be great if some of us could help out this
Saturday, October 20th from 9:00 a.m. to 1 or 2 p.m. Basically, they
get people to donate old bikes, clean them up and then during the
holidays, give the bikes, along with food, clothing, etc. to needy kids
and their families. This sounds like a great cause. Unfortunately for
me, I'm leading a ride on Saturday during the clean-up. If I get back
from my ride early enough, I'll drive out to the Unionville Middle
School. This is an annual event and next year it would be a good idea
to list it on our calendar. For more info please contact Mike at his
home phone # below.
Thanks!
Debbie
