I'm sorry to hear about your accident Peter and hope you mend well and
quickly. Maybe you need to stay away from the stupid tv shows and do a
little reading. By the way, did the person who cut you off help you and
was an accident report written up by the police to show they caused the
accident? I think these motorists need to take responsibility and be
liable for their actions.
Debbie

Sorry to hear the bad news, Peter. I have an inkling of what
those hip injuries are like so I can relate. I also have a masters
degree in crutching, so don't hesitate to ask for pointers. Tip #1: put
all throw rugs in the closet.

I was lobbying hard to excise the Crash and Burn Award from this
year's banquet, especially when I was the leading candidate, but you may
want to exercise your judiciary power as a board member to reinvoke it.

Appparently you weren't delirious if you recall an "incredibly
stupid show on Nostradamus." Redundant maybe, but not addled. Before
others jump in to wish you well and crack wise I'll ask, "How's the
bike?"

		   Dear club--
Last week our good friend and Board member Peter
Schmidt was seriously
hurt in a biking accident. I'll use his words to tell
you what happened:

"I was riding fast along Providence Road in Media
toward RCSP last week
when a car heading the opposite way suddenly made a
sharp left turn,
signalling only after beginning the turn, to cut right
in front of my path,
in order for the car to get to a pizza parlor's parking
lot. I slammed on
the brakes and swerved and fortunately avoided being hit
and run over, but I
crashed in the process and fell hard on my left hip,
dislocating it. Spent
the next 5 days in Riddle lying on my back on my road
rash with 100 tubes
running in and out of me and CNN doing a nonstop loop of
end-of-the-world
scenarios, including the "Planet in Peril" on
global warming, an incredibly stupid show on
Nostradamus, and lots of scenes
of southern California burning. All this did wonders for
my morale. Once
they (finally) decided to operate, the docs rebuilt my
ball and socket joint
with plastic, irradiated cadaver bone material, and
stainless steel (I was
hoping for titanium but they didn't think I was worth it
I guess). Have
taken crutch lessons and am now doing fine and am home
again. All this is
new to me, since I've never had a bad crash before. I
hope to be able to go
back to work next week or so and to make the Dec.
banquet one way or
		another.
"The moral of the story I knew already, but it didn't
really help me in
this situation: watch out for those #^%$@!$
left-turners, not just at
		regular intersections but in mid-block!"
		   Best wishes,
		   Peter Schmidt
