[DVBC] Brandywine Tour: post mortem

This was my 15th consecutive Brandywine Tour which I volunteered for. It was also the easiest, most anxiety free tour of my career. Everything went smoothly. I even slept in and didn't begin to work until I arrived at Fred Engle at 9:00am. I thought the water purchase worked very well. Although we only used 41 of 70 5 gal jugs, if it had been hotter, and more riders had shown up, we could easily have gone thru all 70 jugs. I regret I missed the festivities at Pocopson at the end, but I was fulfilled with my sag duties preventing injuries at the covered bridge. I heard no complaints whatsoever. The 27 mile route, which I rode on Saturday, was the most scenic short route in the history of the tour, giving the riders a taste of everything they would have experienced on the century.

Congratulations to Drew Knox who engineered the overall tour and managed to work the best possible weather. (How did he do that?)
Special thanks to Dom Zuppo who called me last night around 8:30 after finally delivering the missing 5 water jugs to 320 Produce. Gee Dom, you put in a long day!

Just curious to hear from the brass back at Pocopson how the Tour went today. From our perspective out at Brandywine Outfitters in Modena, everything went beautifully and every rider was happy. We heard nothing but praise about the scenery, food, arrow markings, SAG support.... You name it.
Talked to one rider group from Puerto Rico and they claimed they had come up from the island for the express purpose of doing this ride. We had provided seven stackable plastic chairs and our Spanish speaking friends were the only visitors all day to form the chairs in a circle and set up a little neighborhood. They stayed awhile and boy did they eat!
One thing that struck me was how many of the riders were repeat customers. I think our ride is a perrenial success because of customer satisfaction.
I always tell people that there are clubs closer to home that I could join but I am in the DVBC because the people are special. That was evident again today when you saw how many of our members volunteered, how well and cheerfully they worked together and what a terrific tour they put on!
