Wow! About 3000 riders showed up for my Debbie Does Bike Philly ride.
I ran out of room on my sign up sheet! Seriously though, what a great
day. Juror #6 and I rode in from Essington to the start of the ride.
We did the 50 mile route and it was beautiful. The food stop in Narbeth
didn't have water or Gatorade when we got there, but they had potatoes,
pasta salad, carrots, hummus and all sorts of other good stuff to eat.
Before we left they got the water and Gatorade going. It was a very
pleasant ride. At the end they had a band, some tents with stuff to
sell, and I got my picture taken with the Commerce Bank Big C, cool! I
saw volunteers Hans, Jill, David Bennett, Charlie (he gave me my cue
sheet so I'm keeping it forever!), Sue, Woody, and Larry. I also saw
DVBCers Tony with Alex, Doug from my Wednesday Night C rides and a few
other people I recognized from the Lancaster Covered Bridge ride and
from other rides. It was cool riding on roads that normally have tons
of traffic. There was a woman who had on a Wawa jersey and I asked her
how I could get one. She's a member of Wawa management and only they
can get them but she's going to find out if Wawa will start selling them
because she had a lot of people asking about them. I hope to hear from
her soon. Her name is Clare Rogers and she lives in Springfield. I did
purchase a Philadelphia jersey which is really cool looking. Come out
to one of my rides and you'll get to see it. You can get them online
and a portion of each purchase goes to bike causes in the Philly area.
I've already decided that next year I'm going to be a volunteer.

This was a super weekend for biking in our area. Between the Univest
Race, the Wilmington Race, the SCU century and Bike Philly, we had some
great opportunities to bike. Hope all of you got out there and did
something even if it was only riding around the block.

See you on the roads!
