Hey all,
I did the Bike Tour of Colorado last year. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it.
My input.
* From what many riders I met at the BTC said, it is usually more
difficult than "Ride the Rockies" so hard core bikers like it more. It is
also open where the RTR is a lottery to get in.
* The tour was well supported and safe. Five motorcycle state troupers
were dedicated to following the tour around the entire time. There were also
more than sufficient sag and other support.
* Well stocked and positioned "Aid stations." This is their word for
food stop. Plenty of carbs and energy drink on hand to keep you going.
Sorry, no Linvilla pies though.
* The food was good. I would recommend the food plan at minimum for
breakfast and Lunch. I usually made it into camp in time for lunch fairly
easily. As far as dinner there are always great places to go to eat in the
localities you stay. These establishments many times also sell beer, the
post ride drink of champions.(Warning, Beer at altitude has a bigger wallop
and a harsher recoil the next morning.) There are also lots of mobile food
services that follow the tour around.
* Route was well planned out and marked. Never heard of anyone
getting lost.
* Plenty of medical staff and support for those with injuries or aches
and pains.
* Everyone, yes everyone was friendly.
* It is just beautiful scenery out there.
* The descents down the mountain are long fun and safe. You can't get
them that long anywhere else.
* The climbs are long, long, long. You can't get them that long
anywhere else.
* I thought the tent service was a plus. Setting up a tent is not a
lot of fun after a 60 mile ride at altitude. It included a fresh towel every
day, camp chairs, sleeping bags, the whole works. All the stuff you would
not want to haul across the country.
* Camp sites were usually schools, plenty of room and usually soft
grass.
* Frontier airlines is a bit cheaper, check out their flights if you
decide to go.
* Don't underestimate your cardio fitness, you will know for sure how
fit you are once you hit about a 7,000 ft.
If anyone decides to go let me know, I have a bike box for shipping your
bike I might be able to let someone use. Fed ex ground is the cheapest way
to get a bike out there.
My recommendation... 4 1/2 bike wheels out of 5. Do it if you can!

I just received a registration form from The Bicycle Tour of Colorado. You
can look it up on their web site
http://www.bicycletourcolorado.com/index.php. The tour starts June 22
through June 28th and costs $345.00 for the fully supported week of riding
and tent sleeping. Indoor camping is also available for a fee and a weeks
meal plan is available for $275.00. Hotels are available and a tent service
is also available for added cost. I checked into airfare from PHL to DRO
and the cost is currently $662.00. The total cost for the week of riding,
camping, meal plan and airfare is be about $1285.00
