I should gone with you or Maureen...
Instead I went out earlier with a couple of people. Ended up crashing coming down Glen Mills hill. Basically, at the same time that a car was passing, the guy in front me slowed quickly to avoid running over a runner. I bumped his rear wheel and just layed it down on the pavement.
I bruised all the usual suspects down one side: hand, elbow, hip, knee. And, though it looked okay at the time, threw my rear derailleur out of adjustment. Also the handlebars were pretty skewed, but we got that straightened out easily.
With all intent of finishing the ride, I pressed on. But a few miles down the road we got to a hill big enough to make me use my easiest gear. And that's when the rear derailleur shifted right into the spokes, got completely mangled, and ripped straight off.
One of the guys is a bike mechanic and I single-speeded it back a few miles to a convenient place to get picked up by the support vehicle (my wife's car). If I had checked the rear adjustment more carefully, it wouldn't have gotten ripped off.
I'm down a Dura Ace derailleur, one front chainring, a chain, and a derailleur hanger. Overall, coulda stayed home and had a grand time. Only got 24 miles in, and missed the best part of the ride. Not to mention the mechanical work I have ahead of me.
I'll be on the mountain bike until parts come in!
Jon

Dave,
Six riders rode 46+ punishing miles over a very hilly course. Nancy, Cheryl, Mary, Deb, Eric V. and I left for Anna Marie's; Anna Marie's is famous for their "pancakes that overhang the plate". Some riders were "feeling the hills" by the time we stopped for breakfast, there was talk of bagging the hillier second half and returning to the start over the less hilly route. Oh No!! Oh No!! Proclaimed Deb we are in this for the long haul. So we pressed onward to the hillier second half with Deb, Mary and Cheryl leading the way. Since this was my first official ride of 2008 I feel lucky to have finished with everyone still in sight.
See you on the road, Buckeye

wow Maureen sure put a punishing on us.
Jim, Dan, Maureen, Woody, Doc, and Dave were out for the ride Saturday morning.
Maureen was looking for every climb she could find.
Many of the usual climbs plus Glen Mills, Dilworthtown, and Maureen pushed us to tackle Old Gradiville.
I think everyone's legs were hurting, I know mine were.
Legs feeling much better today and glad to have worked them hard yesterday.
With no planned food stops there was much discussion about Doug's ride and the pancakes they were enjoying :-)
Thanks for getting us out there Maureen.

I'd like to do about 40ish miles starting from 320 Market at 9:30AM. Pace should be B-. No food stops - if you need to eat- bring something with you. Eat at 320 Market when we get back! I am not sure exactly where we'll go, but plan on going up Glen Mills and hopefully some other hills. I haven't been riding alot - you'll likely have to wait for me at the top : ) - but I gotta start somewhere!!
Call to confirm ride 215-421-8227. If it is raining, ride is cancelled.
