I did the WCBC's Icicle (Metric) Century today. They should change the name... icicles weren't the problem, it was WIND.
Anyway, it was a great ride and a good course that overlaps some of our Brandywine Tour. I brought the camelbak with some unnecessary gear so as to better train for Colorado.

And I remembered my biking shoes, so that really helped.

For those interested parties, I bought and installed a new drive train yesterday -- rear derailleur, chain, chainrings -- and the road bike is more than road worthy. Worked fine all day today. The new Ultegra SL derailleur was a breeze to install and set up. And the Dura Ace chain combined with wipperman connex link makes it really easy to take the chain on and off tool free and repeatedly. I recommend the wipperman or Sram's power link if you're gonna be working on the drive train. Either that, or just don't crash and trash your bike.

Subject: [DVBC] Olde Brandywine Fifty Ride Report

Well, we started with thirteen riders--Mike M, Dan, Tom, Buckeye, Nancy, Manny, Dave H., Len D, Jim I, JoAnn, Dom, Mary and little ole me. It seemed like old times at the start of the ride when the principal of Chadds Ford Elementary asked us to move to the lower parking since they were having an art show. Geez, I'm still getting yelled at by the principal and I've been out of school how long? : ) Buckeye and Nancy dropped off not far out so we were down to 11. The weather was cold and windy and we were thankful for the sun. The wind made it tough even going downhill! Just past Loch Narin Country Club, a rider dropped by the West Chester Club asked if he could join us. He was from Pottstown, had no cue sheet or cell phone and had no idea how to get back to West Chester. We told him sure join in so we were back up to twelve. However, he found his group again after a couple miles. Hopefully he didn't get dropped again, he could still be out there. At the food stop at 41 & 841, Dom called Buckeye. He and Nancy were at Ruby's eating breakfast. Nice. We had to make a detour instead of climbing up Powell Rd onto Brandywine and that worked out well. This route is one of my favorite rides and today's ride was great but I must say I was glad to be off the bike. My legs were sore for some reason by the end of the ride. Oh yeah, Jim's birthday is Thursday--Happy Birthday Jim.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  Dreamer Deb
