On today's ride Rich Andreas, Len, Bonnie (on her spanking new carbon
Cannondale!), Drew and Jim the sailor Irwin (hey, maybe we should call him
Popeye) joined me. The only rain encountered was a drop or two while
driving to the ride on 295S. It was a chilly start but before long we were
peeling off clothing left and right. Len had a flat just before Greenwich
and Rich headed back at the sandwich shop since he had a time frame. We had
a good lunch at the Country Rose diner and I would recommend the sandwich I
had made with french toast--weird combo but very tasty. While eating,
we pleasantly observed that the sun had opted to join us and it did so for
the remainder of the ride. Very few cars on the road today although we did
encounter the following wild life: a great blue heron (water not on the
road), a turtle (side of the road facing center), a bunch of dogs (in the
road, not entirely friendly), a wild turkey (middle of the road, did a great
gobble-gobble), a white egret (water not road), a pheasant (woods, side of
the road sited by Len). We also rode past Rambo's house--didn't know he
lived in South Jersey. I wouldn't say we were ever lost although I was
confused a few times by the cue sheet. Apparently the name of a road in one
township doesn't mean it's the same if you go into another township. Thanks
to Len and Drew for plotting the route and keeping us on track. It was
everything a great ride should be. And to boot Drew and I got to fill up
our gas tanks with that cheap NJ gas.
Yep, that's my story . . .
