Drew, These are the roads with the least traffic. 7th St. runs next to the Amtrak line so the intersections are only 3 way, only one side to worry about vehicles. Coming North I would take 4th to Flower St. (Commodore Barry Br.) to 7th and take that the rest of the way. I ran 7th all the way to Eddystone for a while but eventually started turning at Ave. of the States and leaving the city by Rt. 252 and into Swarthmore. The area of Chester past Ave. of the States is real ruff. One morning I passed an intersection with little circles painted all over the place. When I read the paper that day I found out there had been a major shoot out there about 20 minutes after I had ridden by the afternoon before. The little circles were where the police marked shell casings. Deb C. mentioned the Widener campus area and I agree they are the safest roads with a large campus security presence. I don't know that area as well except that 252 runs right through it. The YMCA thea Anna uses for her program is only a block away from Ave. of the States. I'm glad she is helping with such a noble cause but I really worry about her safty. I hope she makes a habit of going there with other people. Tom

Good letter, Tom. I think it's our duty to point out cycling safety hazards, especially for kids. I don't know that area at all. How safe are 4th and 7th?
Drew
